Leading Cause of Male Infertility

Varicoceles found in a man's scrotum has been linked to fertility issues. The circulation problems from the blood flow affect the sperm count, and following treatment usually provides a direct improvement in the count.

What is a Varicocele? Causes and Symptoms

A varicocele is an enlarged and twisted vein along the spermatic cord in a man's testicles. The failure of valves inside the veins cause pools of blood preventing normal circulation. The varicose vein bulging of the veins is sometimes described as a "bag of worms". Self-examinations of the scrotum can discover this, but may need an ultrasound to be certain.

Varicocele Treatment

Surgey was commonplace up until recently by a majority of urologists. The urgency for treatment was either by the pain and discomfort or the fertility issues. Alternatives to surgery are now emerging including the Gat Goren Method, and varicocele embolization. A catheter (hollow tube) is inserted in the thigh or abdomen and is used to treat the vein. Usually an outpatient procedure.
